Waterford joins the world wide Piano Day events to celebrate 88 keys of a piano for the fourth consecutive year. Note 2020 is a leap year and the 88th day of the year falls on 28th March.

Piano Day Waterford will bring more pianos to the city and present vibrant artistic collaborations between pianists, dancers, painters and other musicians.
Emotion Piano comes back in a revamped shape and form with colourful paintings by Luke Lawnicki. It will animate Cultural Quarter with a string of piano pieces played by Thomas Mearon.

Ardkeen Library has prepared a versatile music programme curated by Tracy McEneany which will be presented in the Ardkeen Stores foyer. It will feature pianists of different ages and music styles with performances from Cathy Desmond Duo, Killian Browne, The Bealtaine Choir, Caela Murphy and Newtown school students among many others.

Line up for Piano Day 28th March 2020 Ardkeen Stores Foyer hosted by Ardkeen Library – free event, all are welcome.  Piano wouldn’t fit in lift to the library so Ardkeen Stores provided us with space.

10.am    Ballygunner Primary School St. Mary’s 6 pupils – various ages and abilities

Bealtaine Library perform at 11am  Choir led by Anne Woodworth , a community choir, was formed  8 years ago by Anne Woodworth. It is hosted by the central Library and now numbers about 80 members.

Noon           Cathy Desmond Duo

Cathy Desmond. Cathy teaches violin at Waterford Academy of Music and Arts The programme will include a selection of  favourite tunes drawn from classical music, show tunes and popular songs from times gone by.

 1pm       Tara Kennedy

Tara won the battle of the bands  competition late 2018  and has since recorded and released her EP.

1.45pm WAMA student Kate Nolan

Caela Murphy perform at 2.30pm ” 20 year old musician who has played the piano for over 14 years now. Has completed grade 8 in piano forte with the Royal Irish academy of music. Caela composes all my own material which takes the genre of contemporary pianoCaela have also worked alongside Craig Johnston who is a Cinematographer and Anthony O Reilly a film director both from Dublin, as they will be releasing a video in aid of homelessness this December and asked her to compose a score for the short film. ”

3.00pm Newtown Secondary School students

4.00pm Killian Browne – from the Backyard Smokers Club

 City of Waterford Brass perform  at 4.45pm

Individual members of City of Waterford Brass are looking forward to performing at this years’ Piano Day event in Ardkeen Stores at 4.45pm on Saturday 28th March. The recital will feature members of the band at various stages of their development from within the Junior, Intermediate and Senior ranks of the band, accompanied on piano by the band’s Musical Director, Julie Quinlan. City of Waterford Brass actively encourages it’s members to perform as soloists through recitals, concerts and events in their schools as well as Associated Board of Music Examinations.

5.30pm Adam Cooney  – Adam has been playing piano for around 7 years now, and is currently working on my Grade 6 exams with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Music is more than just a passion to Adam and he  aims to work hard so he  can create music of his own in the near future. Soundtracks for video games are his biggest source of inspiration, with composers such as Shoji Meguro and Yuka Tsujiyoko shaping his own taste and understanding of what a soundtrack should be.
