‘FELT’ – ANDREW KENNY IN GREYFRIARS’ GALLERY

Greyfriars Municipal Art Gallery presents’FELT’, an exhibition by Andrew Kenny.
Comprising paintings, installation and video, Kenny’s exhibition responds to a number of paranormal and fortean related phenomena, particularly the idea of “thoughtography”. Thoughtography or Nensha is the process of willing an image into existence – in this case onto undeveloped polaroid film.
This idea is his main focus of interest and can be seen in how he approaches his paintings: large portraits painted on green mineral roof felt that mimic the process of developing polaroid film, and in turn explore the idea of what an image pertains to be. Kenny’s video and installation work also explores these ideas.
Andrew Kenny graduated from the Wexford School of Art in 2008 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, having previously studied for three years at the Gorey School of Art. Since graduating he has exhibited nationwide and has undertaken extensive research into various paranormal phenomena including spirit photography, thoughtography, ESP, telepathy, and out of body experiences. He has also produced experimental works leading to this new body of work – FELT.
The exhibition runs until May 18th 2013.
