Having successfully been involved in a temporary studios and shop, “The Lismore Craft Collective” in 2014, Len Canton (leatherwork), Joan Casey (mosaic & felt) and Jane Jermyn(ceramics) decided to approach Cappoquin Estates about using the Market House for a similar project.
Last November they fell in love with the historic building, even though it was rather neglected. A 3-year lease was negotiated and work began on renovating the building. This was the start of Market House Craftworks.
In March they moved in to a completely transformed building which was due to open in mid-March but, due to the Covid-19 crisis, this was delayed until 8th June.
Downstairs there is an open studio space for each of the makers where the public can watch pieces being made. Here is also a retail area while upstairs houses a bright and airy gallery, with exhibitions being held on a regular basis.
The opening exhibition is of paintings by Cappoquin based artists Anna Moore and Felix Faulkner.
Market House Craftworks opening hours are 10.00am to 5.00pm Tuesday to Sunday.
