Description
As an artist you will be required to write about your work for press releases, marketing purposes and for proposals or applications. As the press, galleries and funding bodies don’t have the capacity to interview everyone seeking press coverage, exhibitions and supports, they need to get a picture of who you are very quickly. The Artists ability to convey this information in Statements, biogs and CV’s will assist people to gain an understanding of what it is you do. The CV can be augmented by a concise artist’s statement and a biography. The artist’s statement also allows the viewer or audience for your work to gain an understanding of your concepts, approach and methodology, helping to promote and make your work accessible.
This session is designed to give artists and designers the know-how and understanding to write clearly articulated and comprehensive CV’s and statements for a variety of situations such as proposals: for funding; to galleries; for job applications; for press and marketing purposes.
The session covers do’s and don’ts in writing the statement and assists artists to workshop in an interactive way developing workable artists statements during the course of the day with peer supported feedback.
Patricia Clyne-Kelly has 20 years’ experience working in the fine art, craft and design sectors as curator (both in Ireland and abroad); gallery owner; professional development trainer; mentor; project/product consultant; trade show stand designer and public art collection keeper and advisor. Patricia began her visual practice as a craft maker and currently uses these skills in her fine art practice. She won 1st prize in the RDS craft competition in 1986 and has represented Ireland at international textile art exhibitions. Her work is in collections in Ireland, the USA and Europe.
Patricia is currently: Director of Access to Arts (est. 2003); Owner-director of Clyne Gallery – a nomadic fine and applied art gallery (est 2011) ; Co-founder/director of the CUBE-creative hub, Dublin 8 (est 2012) and professional artist. Curated exhibitions include: Irish Craft Portfolio, RHA Gallery Dublin (2011 – 2013); Contemporary Art from Ireland.European Central Bank, Frankfurt, Germany (2006) and Showcase Ireland- Crafts Council of Ireland exhibition (1996 – 2003).
She has previously worked as: Marketing and sales director of Forms of Life, ceramic sculpture (1995- 2001); Gallery coordinator DesignYard, Temple Bar (2001-2003); Art consultant to Central Bank & Financial Services Authority of Ireland (2004-2011); Part-time lecturer on business and professional skills at IADT in Dunlaoghaire (2010-2011). Patrica has contributed to CPD session for VAI, the National Sculpture Factory and contributed as a mentor on the Crafts Council of Ireland’s mentor panel.
Patrica has a BSc in Marine Biology; a MSc in Tourism Management; a Post Graduate Certificate in Arts Management and is a qualified Trainer.
