Cold Coffee Cup Contest –

Deadline September 10th 2017

Spoken word contest Cold Coffee Cup will take place as part of Westport Arts Festival 2017.

The Cold Coffee selection panel and guest judge Roberta Beary (Modern Haiku) will consider spoken word in any genre (poetry, prose, rap, theatre), provided it is the work of a single performer and does not exceed the time limit.

Submissions should run no more than 10 minutes of performance time per piece. Performers can submit up to three entries.

The first entry will cost €10, for two entries the cost is €15 and €20 for three. Closing date for submissions is Sunday September 10th.

The best received performance on the night will be awarded a €500 cash prize.

Allingham Festival 2017 Flash Fiction and Poetry Competitions –

Deadline September 11th 2017

The Allingham Festival 2017 Flash Fiction and Poetry Competitions are now open!

These competitions are designed to recognise and reward talented writers who, following in the footsteps of William Allingham, seek to launch or further their careers. The Allingham Festival includes competitions for adult writers of poetry and flash the Allington festivalfiction, and also for children. The festival also offers readings and workshops led by nationally-recognised literary figures where aspiring authors can meet, share ideas, and discuss the emerging trends in the world of writing and publishing.

This year judges are Paul Lynch, Moya Cannon and Monica Corish. The deadline is Friday the 9th of September 2017 for postal entries and midnight on Sunday the 11th of September 2017 for online entries. The top prize in both Flash Fiction and Poetry is €300. Winners are invited to read their winning entries at a special awards ceremony at the Literary Lunch on Saturday November 11th.

Caterpillar Story for Children Prize –

Deadline September 30th 2017

Run by the publishers of The Caterpillar, an art & literature magazine for children, thiscaterpillar prize is for a story written by an adult for children (aged 7–11).

Anyone (over 16) can enter, as long as the story has not been published before (either in print or online).

1st prize €500 plus a 2-week stay at The Moth Retreat in rural Ireland, 2nd prize €300, 3rd prize €200.
