University Hospital Waterford 20 October from 12am – 2pm
The Waterford Healing Arts Trust’s (WHAT) artist in residence Caroline Schofield invites people to drop by her studio in the WHAT Centre for Arts & Health, University Hospital Waterford on Thursday 20 October between 12 noon and 2pm to explore the name(s) they like to be called in an open studio event entitled This is me.
The name on our birth certificates given at birth identifies us throughout our lives but we are often known by many other names, terms of endearment, relationship, nicknames etc. People who attend this open studio will be invited to sew their name(s) on a piece of their clothing (bring along) or fabric (provided).
Through her residency at University Hospital Waterford Caroline has been working with patients with Dementia in Medical Ward 5. She uses materials to form a mediation with the patients on memory.
Caroline lives in Kilkenny. She studied Textiles in NCAD and received an MA in Art & Process from Crawford College of Art & Design in 2015. She is driven by an engagement with craft and a curiosity about narratives contained within materials from industrial steel, stone fabric, string and found objects. She manipulates and creates installations with these items referencing personal histories, place, people and memory.
Drop by her studio to make a small stitched piece, explore your name/names and find out more about Caroline’s residency. Refreshments will be provided.
