Forum Studios, The Glen, home of the Waterford Film Centre, hosts an exciting cinematic event at 8pm on Saturday 23rd of March 2019 when a short (5 minute) film by artist Anthony Costine will be premiered.

Entitled “Graves & Sons” the short film is in fact a promotional video for the song of the same name by Waterford outfit Band of Clouds. New music by Band of Clouds will also be aired at the event.

“Graves & Sons” – created and edited by Costine over the course of two years – takes the viewer on a surreal journey through a post-apocalyptic Waterford city. Local landmarks such as the Ardree Hotel and the recently destroyed Flour Mill buildings are re-imagined in science-fiction scenarios where time and space are warped and juxtaposed against a soundtrack of haunting music and lyrics from Band of Clouds. Anyone familiar with Costine’s highly stylised surreal paintings from the 1980s will immediately recognise in his new film the perennial themes of industrial decay, abandoned spaces, and psychic disruption that have fascinated the artist for decades.

Commenting on “Graves & Sons” Costine says “Over two years ago, when John Hegarty
(frontman of Band of Clouds) asked if I would make a video for the song, I was immediately inspired by the eerie atmosphere conjured up on the track and was determined to use my personal archive of photos and video footage to create a film that celebrates the post-industrial nature of my home city in ways both imaginative and subversive.”

Admission to “Graves & Sons” is free.

All welcome. Tons of drink will be served!
