After its phenomenal opening in Waterford over the weekend, the spectacular new opera The Invader comes to the Wexford Opera House for one night – this Friday May 30th. Created by Eric Sweeney and Mark Roper, directed by Ben Barnes for Theatre Royal Productions with movement by Libby Seward, The Invader is a visual and aural feast that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout.
Set in modern times and inspired by the parable of The Bacchae, from the Greek playwright Euripides, composer Eric Sweeney & poet Mark Roper have brought this story of human folly and divine anger to life. Eric Sweeney’s strikingly beautiful music is set in a contemporary world familiar to us all where the illusion of control overlays an atmosphere of suspense. The opera carries you on a fascinating journey of transformation; blurring the lines between laughter and anguish, repression and uninhibited sexuality, reason and illusion, kindness and cruelty.
The Invader is supported by The Arts Council, Failte Ireland, Wexford Opera House and Waterford City Council as part of the 1100th anniversary celebrations of the founding of the city of Waterford in 914.
