THE BIRDS, THE VAN, THE BUNS AND THE HILL

A New Season of Theatre at Central Arts

… a diverse programme of plays with something for everyone …

As 2017 kicks off, Central Arts has announced the first shows of its 2017 theatre programme with a season of exciting productions covering January through to March.

First up is an exciting new production of Conor McPherson’s ‘The Birds’. Brought to the stage by Tipperary company Sound Out Theatre, this is a new adaptation by leading Irish playwright Conor McPherson of Daphne Du Maurier’s classic short story ‘The Birds’, as made infamous by Alfred Hitchcock. ‘The Birds’ takes places at Central Arts from January 26 – 27 and tickets priced at just €12 … the next scream you hear… may be your own.

Following that, from February 15 – 19 is ‘Will it Fit in the Van?’ a smart new comedy by Tramore playwright Conor Clancy, produced by Cork’s Strive Theatre and funded by Waterford City & County Council under the New Play and Producer fund. This farcical black comedy delves into a world of poorly run drug distribution in small-town Ireland; with kidnapping, murder, cocaine, biscuits, beloved horses, car batteries, the clergy and a very important chipper.

Next up is ‘Tasty Buns’, a new comedy play from Devious Theatre in association with Spark Productions. Written by Adrian Kavanagh and directed by Central Arts’ Artist-in-Residence Niamh Moroney, the play tells the story of two brothers washed up in a small rural Irish town. They dream of paradise, but how will they get there? Tasty Buns takes place from February 22 – 24 and Central Arts and the producers will be announcing more details soon. Watch this space… “from buns to paradise”.

On March 24 and 25, Central Arts sees the return of Áine Ryan (of ‘Kitty in the Lane’ fame) with her brand new one-woman show ‘Up the Hill Jackie’. In this play, Jackie falls pregnant after an affair with her cousin’s fiancé. Her sister Rita accompanies Jackie to London to for an abortion. Rita believes it’s for the best, but Jackie struggles with the decision. Humour, danger and love combine as the girls embark on the biggest adventure of their lives.
