John Roberts Square, Waterford City 29th March 10am-6pm
An upright piano will be placed in John Roberts Square, Waterford City, for public
to play as part of international celebrations of Piano Day on Wednesday, 29th
March, between 10am-6pm. Waterford is the only city in Ireland that joins
worldwide Piano Day events this year thanks to support from Waterford City and
County Council.
The date of the event falls on the 88th day of the year, which represents piano’s
88 keys. Tim Jackson from Comeragh Pianos kindly donated a nearly 100 year old
high end George Rogers piano for this occasion. Everyone is welcome to play
it, regardless of one’s skills, at their leisure and pleasure. Tim will be present on
the day to talk to those interested in pianos’ construction, restoration and tuning.
There will be also surprise performances by musicians to add more harmony to
cacophony of the city.
After the event the piano will be donated to a community organization Shine
Discovery on Barronstrand Street.
This free event is organised by Magdalena Lipinska. Aerial photographs of Piano
Day will be taken by Alan Golden.
