GREYFRIARS MUNICIPAL GALLERY PRESENTS ‘INVITED RESPONSE’

Waterford artist Christine O’Brien Shanahan will lead a fun exploration of the exhibition ‘Recent Acquisitions plus Abstract & Contemporary Works’ at 5.30pm on September 18th at Greyfriars Art Gallery, Waterford.

No previous experience of art appreciation is needed to enjoy Christine’s light-heartedly talk. It is designed to unravel and then knit together elements that connect this eclectic selection from Waterford’s Municipal Art Collection.
Christine is co-curator and founding member of 20ten artist collective and was artist in residence at Soma Contemporary Gallery in 2014 where she continues to have a studio. In 2014 Chris was invited to speak at the Visual Artist Ireland annual ‘Get-Together’ in the Irish Museum of Modern Art. She conceived and hosted the inaugural VAI ‘Artist Cafe’ at Central Library, Lady Lane, in 2013.
With a MA in Arts & Heritage Management and Diploma in Fine Art, her recent work explores boundary lines that connect and divide. Linking traditional crafts with contemporary media is central to her Arts practice which combines painting, photography and art installation.
An experienced Arts facilitator, Christine developed Waterford City Council’s Secondary Schools Programme based on the collection between 2011 and 2014. In 2011 she curated ‘Reading the Landscape’ – a collection of paintings from the Municipal Collection at Greyfriars Art Gallery.
