Dingle International Film Festival offers €5,000 cash prize & €2,000 worth of film equipment hire for Irish language Short Film Proposal.

We are delighted to announce the third ‘Físín’, a call to filmmakers to submit a short film proposal in the Irish language. The competition has been a wonderful success these past two years giving a unique opportunity to write a short script in the Irish language. Paul Webster won this year’s competition and is currently in production with his short film STUAMA which will premiere at the next film festival in March. The winner of the 2011 prize was Cathal Ó Cuaig who’s film AN CLUICHE premiered at this year’s festival and was wonderfully received. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of €5,000 and €2,000 worth of film equipment hire from Vast Valley.

The festival is delighted to have Vast Valley come onboard this year as a sponsor to Físín. Their generous donation of €2,000 worth of film equipment will be invaluable to the winning filmmaker. Vast Valley Ltd provide equipment and support for feature films, TV drama and commercials. They supply cameras, lenses, accessories and grip equipment and are located in Dublin, 2 and Belfast. Their list of film credits include, the new films from Lenny Abrahamson, What Richard Did, Kieran Evens’s Kelly & Victor and Konrad Begg’s Seven Songs for Amy.

The opportunity has been put together by the festival to encourage writing of film scripts in the Irish language. Tor Cotton, one of the festival sponsors came up with the idea.

Everyone from Transitional year students to professional filmmakers are welcome to enter the competition. Five filmmakers will be selected and they will each receive a free festival pass to attend the next Dingle International Film Festival in March 2013. Each of the five will be given the opportunity to pitch their proposal to a panel during the festival. A wonderful panel has been put together, including writers Louise Ní Fhiannachta, Marina Ní Dhubháin and director Cathal Watters.

The competition is aimed at people who combine a special interest in film alongside a commitment to the Irish language. The festival is keen to see proposals from all local dialects. This opportunity is open to any individual or group from Transitional students right through to professionals. The application details is available to download at www.dinglefilmfestival.com or you can email fisin@dinglefilmfestival.com.

The closing date for entries is 14th Dec 2012.

The 5 finalist will be notified by the 1st February 2013 and will be expected to be available to attend the festival. The winning pitch at the festival will receive €5,000 cash prize, €2,000 worth of film equipment hire from Vast Valley and will return to Dingle with their finilised film for the 2014 Festival. Each finalist will also receive a personalised commemorative leather notebook designed by Conor Holden and a festival pass.

The festival is now also open for short and feature submissions. If you are interested in submitting a film to the festival, please visit our website for details. www.dinglefilmfestival.com
