Waterford City and County Council will host a series of activities as part of Waterford’s Cultural Quarter on Thursday 6th June from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. to mark Africa Day 2019. The aim is to better inform the indigenous population about the diverse, rich and colourful African Culture in Waterford. Africa Day in Waterford encourages the wider public to get a ‘Sense of Africa’. Each year we like to pay particular attention to one of the five senses and following on from the ‘Sights of Africa’ in 2018 we are now delighted to explore the ‘Sounds of Africa’ in 2019.

Three sound stages will host the programme of events and they will be located on O’Connell Street and Hanover Square. An eclectic mix of performances is guaranteed which shall range from Hip-Hop to Gospel. Guest speakers will launch the event and information stalls concerned with such topics as human rights and the recently launched Waterford Migrant Integration Forum will be present. There will be plenty of activities for the children including a mini-farm, wobbly circus with stilt walkers, balloons and hula hoops, baby boogie and face painting.

Sound of Africa (Pre-After Party) –  6th June – Central Arts – 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
