In October 2015 she held her first solo exhibition, as a Chinese jar at 12 Henriette Street, Dublin. Interested in linking visual art and literature her practice includes paint, performance, print and text-based artwork.

A Lifeless Rib is a live art performance and discursive workshop that will take place at Central Arts in Waterford on Friday 16th September at 7pm. This event is a development of Róisíns research on the imaginations connection to knowledge and her concern with gender inequality. A Lifeless Rib was influenced by Wallace Stevens poem Sunday Morning and by Michelle Foulcaults writing on knowledge. The performance is primarily a reading of a cut-up text using John Miltons Paradise Lost. The cut-up text is a re-appropriation of western societys perception of Eve.

A Lifeless Rib suggests that the only paradise we will experience is on earth and that religion, and thus the story of Adam and Eve, has been used as a means to stop people from question things in the world, has oppressed them and particularly has oppressed women. Róisín will create a multi-sensory experience including sight, taste and smell as a backdrop to this reading, which will include coffee, oranges and green cockatoos.  The discursive workshop, which will take place directly after the live art performance, will include coffee or tea and oranges, an opportunity to see the stage back drop in more detail as well as a discussion.

The discussion will be based around short extracts from three texts – Paradise Lost, by Milton ,Sunday Morning, by Stevens and The Order of Things, by Faucault. The participants of the discussion will be asked to question and examine the production of knowledge and its relationship to imagination. The aim of the discussion is to reveal the mechanisms of knowledge production.

A Lifeless Rib is a free event. However it would be appreciated if those who wish to remain for the discursive workshop would book by contacting Róisín at roisinhackett24@gmail.comCentral Arts Logo
