Jayceon Terrell Taylor [a.k.a. The Game] has emerged, from Compton, as one of the rawest voices from the West Coast hip-hop scene in the early 2000s’. The Game released his debut LP, The Documentary, in 2004 through Aftermath/G-Unit/Universal and was one of the first individuals to join Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Records. The Game did not always aspire to be a rapper and was involved in the drug trade during his rough childhood. Jayceon was shot during a invasion of his home in October 1st, 2001 which was a major catalyst for him to become a rapper.
After the 2001 incident while The Game was recovering in hospital he apparently reached the decision to pursue a career as a rapper. ‘You Know What It Is Vol. 1‘ (2002) was a mix tape that The Game released, which Dre discovered and was the impetus needed for Dr. Dre to sign the emerging talent.
