MAYORAL RECEPTION FOR GEORGE

Coastguard Cultural Centre, Tramore, Tuesday 23r October at 3:00pm

Capture.PNG12Tramore born George Morrison is credited with the founding of the Irish Film Archive through his pioneering work on Mise Eire (1959) and Saoirse (1962). George worked closely with Sean O’Riada for the creation of the iconic soundtrack for Mise Eire.
George went on to a long career in film including 42 films and 11 books and just last week he gave his life’s archive to the National Library.

The IFTA award for documentary making is now called after George and at long last Waterford and Tramore pays homage to George.

On Tuesday 23rd October the Imagine festival will screen Mise Eire and These Stones Remain (1971) alongside a film about George and his life and work made by Ciarin Scott ‘Waiting for the Light’ (2004) – all three films will be shown in Garter Lane Theatre (Free Admission)

Earlier in the day at 3pm Imagine festival has organised a small tribute for 96 year old George, when Mayor Joe Kelly will host a small reception at 3pm in the Coastguard Cultural Centre.
George was born very close to the Coastguard Station in 1922.
