COMING UP IN THE TRAMORE COASTGUARD CULTURAL CENTRE

Saturday 27th of January the Tramore Coastguard Cultural Centre will be host for the Grainne Hambly Harp Weekend at 8 pm.

From County Mayo Gráinne Hambly is an internationally recognised exponent of theIrish harp, and is in great demand as a performer and teacher, both at home and abroad. Gráinne started to play Irish music on the tin whistle at an early age, before moving on to the concertina and later the harp. She lived in Belfast for six years, where she completed a Masters Degree in Musicology, awarded by Queen’s University (in 1999). Her main research topic was folk music collections and the harp in 18th-century Ireland. She also completed the Graduate Diploma in Education (Music) at the University of Limerick.

At 6pm Saturday 27th of January preceding Grainne Hambly there will a Alexander Breathing Technique Workshop for controlling nerves during a performance from practitioner Tina Kiely.

Or for budding harpists an Absolute Beginners Workshop/Demonstration at 1 Eastlands, Pond Road, Tramore at 9am on the same day Facilitated by Eimear Fahey.

All welcome. Supported by Waterford City and County Council. €10 for one event, €15 for 2 events and €20 for three events.

Hometown in Concert Waterford based group ‘Hometown’ play the Coastguard Cultural Centre  in Tramore on Saturday 3rd February, starting at 8.00pm. The band features four members of popular band Strange Fruit. Featuring the stunning vocals of U.S. born lead singer Bobbie Carey who has toured internationally and recorded extensively. The band also includes solo recording artist Suzanne Rowe on piano & accordion, Paul Grant, long time guitarist with the late Liam Clancy on guitar, bluegrass player Gerry Madden on mandolin and Ritchie McDonald pulling up the bottom end on bass and vocals. Covering a range of music from traditional to folk, jazz and bluegrass, as well as original material, it promises to be a superb evening of music and song. Tickets are available in advance from the Coastguard Station or on the night, however seating is limited so do get there early.
