Central Arts April 2nd – 9:30pm
Central Arts are happy to welcome back Harbouring Oceans with massive support from Hawk & Barq on the 2nd April. This is going to be an absolute whopper of a gig!
Harbouring Oceans – Drawing heavily from genres outside their rock foundations, the sound of Harbouring Oceans is characterized by close harmony, deep rhythmic grooves and soulful vocal melodies. Hip-hop and electronica are also strong features in the band’s sonic signature. This dynamic sound ranges from quiet, almost ambient territory to squalls of thunderous noise!
Harbouring Oceans released their debut single, “Enso,” in May 2016, the first release from a band whos members have been playing together in different projects for over a decade. After years of experimenting with their sound across Ireland in some of the country’s biggest venues and festivals, Harbouring Oceans was born in December 2015. Energized by the creativity and DIY mentality of the independent music scene, Harbouring Oceans are determined to spread their unique sound as far and wide as possible.
“Harbouring Oceans are on the cusp of stardom… Get ready to be impressed” – Hotpress Magazine.
HAWK: Hawk are an indie band based in London. Julie, Matt, Chris, and Sam hail from the west of Ireland and the UK. Their sound is described by The Line of Best Fit as “simply sublime – sharp post-punk riffs akin to Warpaint’s clearer moments or Savages’ smoggier ones.”
Galway-born singer Julie Hawk, began collaborating with Matt Harris in 2013. After a year on the acoustic scene, they teamed with Sam and Chris to form HAWK. Over three EPs the band have constantly added to their abrasive edge teaming this with Hawk’s celestial vocals to create a driving, expansive sound. Their music has ‘activism at its heart’, with their most recent releases singing out about marriage equality, abortion laws, and attitudes towards the female body.
“Epic, sweeping, and cerebral indie rock at its finest.” – The Vinyl District
BARQ: A high energy four-piece, shoving groove into the belly of the rock-beast and creating agro-soul. This is music to dance dangerously to. In March 2016, BARQ released their debut single “Gentle Kind of Lies” to critical acclaim and a surge of media attention. The track was picked up Spotify’s new music playlist in both the UK and Brazil, as well as being included on IASCA’s playirish USA, and two of Goldenplec’s Goldenstereo playlists. After wowing crowds at a number of leading festivals around the country including; Longitude, Indiependence, Groove, Body + Soul , Electric Picnic, and Knockanstockan, BARQ released their 3rd single “Bear” in Nov 2016.
“BARQ are definitely one of the most exciting new acts on the Irish Music scene.” -RTE 2XM
