VIENNA MOZART TRIO FOR WATERFORD’S LARGE ROOM

Image
On Wednesday January 22nd one of Austria’s foremost chamber music ensembles the Vienna Mozart Trio will open the 72nd Spring season of Waterford Music, the international chamber music concert series in City Hall’s Large Room.

The renowned Vienna Mozart Trio is unique in that it consists of members of the same family. Son Daniel (violin) and mother and father Irina (piano) and Diethard Auner (cello) are not bound by any contracts with orchestras or other ensembles. Their artistic independence enables them to achieve a musically free and unconventional interpretation. The musicians see it as their vocation to bring music as a spontaneous and original experience. As a result, the Trio has made a wide audience in the most important concert halls of Europe and Asia familiar with all epochs and styles from Mozart and the great Viennese classics to the present day.

In this concert during their new Irish tour the “happy musical family” from Vienna combines both Beethoven’s and Dvořák’s piano trios in B-flat major, flanking Schoenberg’s early tonal masterpiece.

Ludwig van BEETHOVEN’s  Piano Trio in B-flat major Op. 11, called the ‘Gassenhauer’, with variations on tunes from the lanes (Gassen) of late 18th century Vienna. Almost a century later the “hugely promising newcomer” Antonin DVORAK published his first Piano Trio in B-flat major Op. 21, “fresh and gloriously melodic”. Arnold SCHOENBERG, the 20th-century music revolutionary and inventor of the twelve tone technique, is perhaps best known among audiences for this early tonal work ‘Transfigured Night’ which he wrote in only three weeks.
