W.H.A.T. ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Gormely

The Waterford Healing Arts Trust, based at Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH), has announced Jeffrey Gormly as its Artist in Residence for 2013. Jeffrey will be based in the WHAT Centre for Arts in Health from June to December this year. The residency programme enables artists to forge closer links with the hospital community through direct engagement of patients, staff and visitors in creative projects.
During the residency, Jeffrey will explore the theme of affirmations. According to the artist, “I am aiming to create 12 Affirmations, like 12 Stations on the journey to death and resurrection, or the twelve labours of Hercules. They mark my path through the hospital life. They acknowledge, authorise and affirm the creative power within everyone, available for pleasure, healing, and creating new life. I look forward to discovering the forms of these affirmations in the environment of Waterford Regional Hospital (where my own daughter was born) and in the company (and with the help) of patients, staff, and hospital visitors.”
Jeffrey is a writer, editor and producer. He uses music, theatre processes, applied choreography, and ideas from science fiction, to develop easygoing, supportive spaces for creative development. Literary editor for nervousystem theatre laboratory, creative director of Soul Gun Warriors, he has been commissioned by The Abbey Theatre, Clonmel Junction Festival, & Dance Ireland, worked with Siamsa Tire & Irish Chamber Orchestra, as well as being Associate Artist with Daghdha Dance Company since 2004. In 2011/12, he worked with KCAT, Callan, as a CREATE-funded Artist in the Community.
