Voci & Ad Hoc Chorale join forces this coming Sunday for Music at the Museum – the Sunday lunchtime concert. Female voice choir, Voci, directed by Fintan Scanlon, and mixed voice choir Ad Hoc Chorale directed by Cian O’Carroll, kick off at 12.30 pm downstairs beside the Chorister’s Hall.
Based in Waterford, Voci was founded by Anne Barry and is currently conducted by Fintan Scanlon. Since its establishment in 2005, the choir has been contributing to the musical life of the city, giving recitals and sharing concerts with other local groups. Voci has had competitive successes at Arklow and New Ross Choral Festivals. The choir’s repertoire explores a range of music from early polyphony to arrangements of light music and also includes music by Irish composers.
Ad Hoc Chorale was started in 2004 and has since gained a national reputation. They have taken part in numerous competitions and won major awards in New Ross, Sligo and Cork. In 2010 they won first prize in the Premier Mixed Voice competition as well as the best National Choir of the festival, at the Cork Choral Festival. This mixed choir which contains a blend of youth and experience performs a wide variety of music. They have had the privilege of performing works written by members of the choir, notably Ben Hanlon and Greg Scanlon. The name Ad Hoc alludes to the fact that when the choir began, the members only intended to perform for fun, on special occasions. Their audiences convinced them to become a fully-fledged choir and Waterford music is now all the richer!
The performances, in the atmospheric Garden Room, accessed through the Medieval Chorister’s Hall, will delight and entertain. Music for the soul.
Ticket entry to the concert entitles the bearer to a guided tour of the museum at the reduced price of €2 and a 10% reduction on lunch at the Munster Bar. For updates on this and upcoming events visit http://www.facebook.com/MusicAtTheMuseum or join our mailing list at email@example.com
