ITS THE REAL MCCOY

Image

Friday 05th to Saturday 06 April 2013 – Theatre Royal Waterford

It is already being hailed as one of the funniest new Irish comedy plays to ever hit the stage and with two of MidWest Radio’s Presenters taking lead roles the word is out that this play is one not to be missed. Following sell out shows in Mayo, Sligo, Galway, Mullingar, Virginia, Leitrim and a very successful run in Chicago in the USA, It’s The Real McCoy comes to Waterford.

The play is set in rural Ireland in the mid 1960’s and its main character is Madge Mulloy (Eileen Slevin) who has spent over 40 years of her life in despair following the disappearance of her husband for no apparent reason.

What unfolds on stage has to be seen to be believed. The new parish curate Fr. Michael McCoy (Tommy Marren) gets news about her husband Tom (Ollie Rouse) and his wishes to return to her to explain why he left. However, Madge has to contend with the fact that her only child Maura (Collette McHale) has fallen in love with the local postman Martin Daly (Gerry Glennon) and she doesn’t approve.

She also has regular full blown confrontations with the two nosiest neighbours in Ireland – namely Nora O’Hora (Deirdre O’Meara) and her daughter Cora (Mary Marren). The play is packed with plots and sub-plots, two love stories, a confused curate, a gormless postman and a woman who has a lot of anger and frustration to release!

Reaction to this new play has been remarkable and it comes from the pen of broadcaster Tommy Marren from Sligo. Tommy is the main current-affairs presenter on Midwest Radio (Mayo) and this is his follow up to his first production called “The Banshee of Crokey Hill”
